PREFAB STORAGE SHEDS: MAKE IT SIMPLE

Everything is turning “prefab” or “prefabricated” these days. Why not? Prefabricating stuff, including storage sheds, comes with a lot of advantages. On the other hand it has its drawbacks, too. Let’s talk about prefabricated storage sheds and how they work.

Ready when you’re ready

Prefabrication is the act of constructing or building something in a location other than where it’s supposed to be. This could be in a factory or some other place. The finished structure—in this case, the prefabricated storage shed—is then carefully lifted and transported to the main site, where it is put down and bolted into place. Prefabrication seems like an impossible task but it’s actually being done for some years now.

So why should you choose a prefab storage shed over the traditional type? Let’s take a look at the strong points and weak points of prefabrication:

Advantages:
  • Often self-supporting and ready-made components are used to build prefab storage sheds. So the need for formwork is greatly reduced.
  • On-site construction is minimized.
  • Because the shed itself was built in a factory, you can be rest assured of its high quality and durability.

Disadvantages
  • It is possible for leaks to form at the joints of the shed.
  • Transportation costs may be higher than the cost of on-site construction, depending on the size of the shed.

Is prefabricating more expensive?

It depends. If you want to find out whether prefabricating a storage shed is going to cost you more, you need to look into both worlds. Most of the time on-site construction is more expensive. But if you’re looking to prefab a very large storage shed, the transportation costs could easily render prefabricating the more expensive of the methods. Consult with a prefab expert to help you determine your budget.

Prefabricating sure has its ups and downs. Plan carefully because in prefab, every nail and every plank of wood has more weight than they do when building the old fashioned way.
